Guayoyoyo: from Pyxis ecosystem to International CyberEx
Last Wednesday, June 30, the International CyberEx 2021 took place, a competition in which several Uruguayan teams managed to place in the Top 10, including the Guayoyoyo team, a member of the Pyxis ecosystem.
CyberEx is an activity organized by the National Cybersecurity Institute of Spain (INCIBE) and the Organization of American States (OAS). Under the Capture The Flag (CTF) modality, the participating teams have to analyze and solve different security incidents. In this edition there were 12 challenges to complete, each with different levels of complexity and scores, which simulated security incidents that occurred in a fictitious organization. Guayoyoyo’s team obtained the ninth position, entering the Top 10 of the competition.
During the 8-hour event, 82 teams from more than 30 countries in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa participated. Out of a total of 328 participants, only 5 were women; one of them was Eliana Sanabria, one of the representatives of Guayoyoyo.
This team managed to solve 5 challenges, obtaining 2,950 points, finishing in ninth position and entering the Top 10, thus securing a place in INCIBE’s Cybersecurity Summer BootCamp, to be held next year in the city of León, Spain.
In addition to Guayoyoyo, two other Uruguayan teams made it into the Top 10 of the competition. On the one hand, the KMH team, from Krav Maga Hacking, came in second place with 5,250 points. On the other hand, the UCIBERE team (Army Cyber Defense Unit) came in seventh place with 3,425 points. The winner of this edition was the Argentine team CERTunlp, from the University of La Plata, with 5,250 points.
This is the third time that Guayoyoyo participates in the International CyberEx. The participation in this event is promoted in the team not only as an instance to learn and share knowledge, but also to work as a team, have fun and have a good time.
