Members of the Environment and Pyxiana Social Responsibility Commissions (RSP) visited the SOS Marine Fauna Rescue refuge, located in Punta Colorada. The objective: to get to know the project up close and to collaborate in the refurbishment of the Marine Fauna Museum, which is reopening its doors this season for the first time after the pandemic.

Helping and getting in touch with the world of marine fauna were the objectives to be achieved. Richard, the person in charge of the place, welcomed us with a guided tour, where we were able to take photos, listen to the history of some of the animals and feed sea lions, seals, penguins and turtles. Finally, we got down to work!

One of the big challenges for Richard and his team was to get the Marine Wildlife Museum next to the refuge up and running again. The refurbishment involved some general cleaning, rearranging and painting.

In the shelter, the more experienced carpenters shouldered the ladders and replaced a shade cloth that had been badly damaged by the coastal wind and sun.

The bulk of the team, with paintbrushes in hand, set about painting all the wooden structures around the perimeter where the animals rest and live while they recover to return to the sea.

It was a unique experience for the members of the two commissions that we will surely repeat. In addition to the help in labour, all the materials used, such as brushes, buckets and paint were donated to the shelter.

We closed the year together helping a place with the noble objective of sheltering animals that arrive in unhealthy conditions, in most cases, due to unconscious and selfish human actions.
