Pyxis Research is a space that seeks to promote research throughout the Pyxis ecosystem to overcome the limits of knowledge, in order to generate capabilities and high value-added products. We understand that the way to achieve this is through the synergy between Industry and Educational Institutions.
2020 was a great year, with projects and initiatives that felt us with pride and we want to share the highlights.
Technological surveillance (TS)
We launched a bot as a tool that allows us to promote acquisition of new knowledge. We were interested in being able to monitor the state of the art (estado del arte) in the areas of knowledge of our ecosystem. We established objectives, generated processes and a commission formed by Pyxis ecosystem units representatives, to shape its work.
This bot allows us to automate the TS process. Today we are able to detect and share market opportunities and threats, learn about the latest technological advances and trends. These inputs are essential for better decisions at the planning and strategy level, both indoors, with the team, and with our solutions and positioning in the market.
Postgraduate support program
The postgraduate degree projects has multiple objectives, including stimulating continuous training for people who work at Pyxis, encouraging integration with the Educational Institutions and improving the acquisition of cutting-edge knowledge by the entire Pyxian ecosystem. In 2020, the research of 2 collaborators was supported, one focused on cybersecurity and the other one on artificial intelligence.
Promoting Projects for Undergraduate Studies
With the same objective, we supported 3 undergraduate degree projects that focus on topics of interest to the ecosystem:
1 – Open Space software re-engineering jointly with the ORT. The project included technical improvements and added new functionalities: the setting up of the agenda and surveys of the participants.
We congratulate the ORT students: Diego Torres, Alejandro Capece, Federico Trujillo and Mariel Feder (Tutor) who have successfully completed their degree project in November 2020.
2- Microservices Architecture jointly with FIng UdelaR and Gusmán Llambias as tutor. The program includes a survey on how projects based on microservices are developing today, establishing a common divisor for these architectures, analyzing the current state of the industry and reviewing new techniques to incorporate.
3- Extensibility for cloud management tool by FIng UdelaR and Gustavo Vazquez as tutor. The project consists in developing a higher-level intermediate API that interacts with the different vCloud Director product APIs, providing a single programmatic entry point to the different capabilities of the product.
Open Tech
This year we reinvented ourselves and met via Zoom for the seventh edition of Open Tech, our traditional exchange of knowledge between the team and the community.
The event exceeded all expectations gathering more than 140 participants. We launched a new format with 10 talks and a panel with 5 women invited to reflect on gender equality in the IT industry.
Simultaneously, two, 100% virtual workshops were held; one on quantum computing: state of the art and a practical approach, and another on writing; where we learned to apply journalistic tools to text writing. We also shared technical knowledge in Commerce, Information Security, Machine Learning, among others. Topics of interest such as the Uruguayan Economy, Time Management and the future of Telco in Uruguay, were also discussed.
The Open Tech event concluded with a keynote by Arleen Salles, a researcher at the EU Human Brain Project, inviting us to reflect on ethics and innovation in technology projects.

Content generation
We are committed to “feed” our blog with contributions from the entire team. Jointly with the Communication Team, we write technical articles and share event reviews, among other topics of interest.
On our way to generate partnership with the Educational Institutions and the joint development of knowledge, we applied to 6 calls from ANII and BID to obtain financing for projects, obtaining support for “Enlace Solidario” and “GuidAI” jointly with the Faculty of Engineering and Idatha.
Educational Links
We continue to collaborate with FIng, Ricaldoni Foundation (FJR), UDE, UCU, ORT University with new proposals on topics for degree thesis, performing as jury in the evaluation of ventures and negotiating possible internships.
We participated at UTEC with DevOps workshops with the PyxInfra team, Cybersecurity with Guayoyo and Databases with Idatha.
We set ourselves the 2021 goal to improve relationships which are already established, generating new opportunities with the following institutions and organizations:
Holberton, IBM academy and Digital House Coding School. Academies in Colombia such as EAFIT and the University of Medellín.
In 2021 we will continue investing in activities that allow us to share and expand our knowledge.
We invite all collaborators that are part of the Pyxis ecosystem – partners, friend companies, academic and educational institutions, and students to approach the Pyxis Research team, to use the instruments that we currently support or suggest new ideas that contribute to link between the Industry and Educational Institutions.
