We attended the first virtual RH Summit with Sergio García, Head of Operations at Pyxinfra. The main Open Source technology event for IT professionals had a special focus on open source, hybrid cloud and Openshift.
The event was to be held at the Moscone Center convention center in San Francisco, but due to the pandemic, it was implemented 100% virtually. «It was a demonstration of adaptation on the part of Red Hat, receiving access from more than 80,000 people around the world,» says Sergio.
With the new pandemic context, it was demonstrated that companies are more connected than ever, using technology to drive their business, gain productivity and innovation.
Red Hat OpenShift on Azure
«They presented a managed OpenShift Azure service, with joint support and management from Red Hat and Microsoft,» Sergio highlights in terms of important announcements from the meeting.
Among its main advantages he points out security aspects: it allows running applications on the Kubernetes platform reinforced with Red Hat OpenShift security based on the infrastructure of the Azure size.
In addition, he adds, it gives greater agility to developers thanks to integrated CI/CD pipelines that provide a wide range of supported technologies and optimized workflows.
Finally, in terms of scalability, it also offers advantages. «It is possible to start a high-availability cluster and then scale it as required, among other advantages,» says Sergio.
Expansion of the service to other clouds
«They advanced that they will be looking to offer this same service in the rest of the clouds (AWS, GCP, IBM Cloud),» Sergio points out as another big announcement.
With Amazon Red Hat OpenShift, customers would gain a number of advantages: access to the world’s most comprehensive enterprise Kubernetes platform, already used by more than 2,000 customers worldwide; expansion of Kubernetes services for AWS customers with the backing of two leaders in cloud computing and Kubernetes.
It also extends native integration with AWS services. The AWS portfolio of cloud services, from storage, networking, databases, analytics and machine learning could be accessed directly through Amazon Red Hat OpenShift, among other advantages.
«With these capabilities, it will be easier to build, operate and scale globally,» Sergio concludes.
